Evil Trees

Evil Tree is a part of Distractions and Diversions released on February 25,2009. This event which occur twice a day, and will help players train their Woodcutting, Firemaking and Farming skills.

Removing the tree

When confronting the tree, there will be four roots surrounding the tree. Players may either chop down the roots or just chop the tree. If one were to chop the roots, they will be given Evil tree kindling. Once players have these kindling, they can attempt to set the tree on fire to do continuous damage.

Players can obtain this from chopping a root from an Evil tree. They can be used to set the tree on fire. Kindlings on the ground looks nothing much like the one in players inventory.

Locations

The trees work the same as the Star hunting system. Although, to find out were a tree is, for now, you have to talk to a spirit tree and the tree will hint you on. The spirit tree near the Grand Exchange is the most effective. The tree’s show signs as well. When you are star hunting, you see a giant cloud of black fog fly over you and smash to the ground. As with the tree’s you see roots shoot out from the ground, giving you signs that the evil tree is coming and/or is near by.

Rewards

In addition to the experience earned while dealing with the evil tree, you may receive a few items the tree dredged up from the earth through its massive root network or parts of the tree itself. This includes noted logs of the evil tree’s type (elder trees offer noted yew, magic, teak or mahogany logs), tree seeds, bird’s nests, items like key halves and Treasure Trail clues, or gold.

Further to this, you will also receive a temporary Woodcutting ability (lasts between 5 and 30 minutes) that makes your logs automatically go to your bank if your inventory is full. This will affect normal, oak, willow, maple, yew and magic trees.

On top of this, each time you get some logs, there is a significantly reduced chance of the tree being felled, which should show a marked increase on your training efficiency. This reduced felling effect will not work on trees you have grown yourself in Farming patches.
